Editing Techniques used in my music video
Editing
A lot of time has been dedicated to editing my music video, in order to showcase a range of editing techniques. Firstly, within my music video i used a title above a pull focus as to introduce my band and the song. It the fades into a glitch transitioning into the actual video.Throughout my video i used overlays on the performances to create a flicker effect that looks like an old camera. This makes the basic performance footage look more interesting and separate it from the narrative. I also, used a video tape over lay on the scene when they are on the roundabout, speeding up the footage to make it look as if the audience is looking back on an old memory. As well as this i use glitch overlays as both transitions and to distort the scenes, to show that something is distorted between the two characters.
In the first verse of the performance i did a graphic match zooming into the lead singers mouth, with the next shot zooming out of another band member. This creates consistency for the performance.
Additionally, throughout the performance and narrative i play with layers. Duplicating them and then moving the motion. Making it look like there is more then one band member on screen. As well as this i used the effect "posterise" which slowed the frame rate down as to make the foot appear glitchy. This is done at some points of the narrative as to show there is something wrong in their relationship. For example, when their hands part.
Towards the end of the video i applied a jump cut to my footage of the protagonist walking with his ex. They walk together, the footage cuts and then cuts again but this time without the girl. Showing how he has lost her. A glitch separates these clips.
On one of the narrative clips i duplicated the layer, posterised time and then applied a channel blur. This channel blur, blurs the colours that i select and in this case blue and red. This makes the scene appear hectic reflecting the unstable state of their relationship.
All of clips have an adjustment layer above them, this is used to change the colouring of the clips. As to correspond with the mood and tone of the scene. For example, the burning shots are all dark with low saturation making the clips feel cold. This reflects the depressed emotional state of the protagonist.
