Test Video

Image
Withing lesson time we were given a couple of hours to put together a short music video to display some shots and techniques we have learned or can learn from. For example, the first clip is of a pull focus which is something i have not tried to do before. I think that this technique was effective as an introduction. Throughout the video we took consideration to use the rule of thirds and to frame the singers eye line in the top box. Also, when editing the walking shot with the Dolly i used slow motion as they moved past the camera, something i would like to implement in my final product. When the singer punches the camera it has been reverse edited as to not damage the camera but also to see if this affect worked. Within editing i tired out a few techniques such as colour grading using an adjustment layer over the entire sequence as well as the pen tool in the titles to make the line effects. There was a lot to learn from this for example, lip syncing provided to be more difficult t...

Goodwin Table

Image
Goodwin's Theory Table:  Andrew Goodwin suggests that there are many key features within music videos, i used these to analyse two music videos. Goodwin argues that for a music video to function successfully it must meet the genre requirements, establish a relationship between visual and lyrics, between the music and images and portray star power. As well as including concepts such as intertexuality and narrative. Adele is renowned for her emotional songs which perfectly accompany the soul genre while appealing to her audience. Relationship between visuals and lyrics The whole song is about losing someone and remembering them. This is shown through the editing of using a sepia colour filter making as if the video is a ...

Music Video Analysis

Music Video Analysis Additional Analysis:  You Me At Six- Lived a lie:  This music video is from indie rock band "You Me At Six", i have chosen to look more into this genre as it is the one i intend to use for my own music videos. Therefor, analyzing this will allow me too see the typical codes and conventions of the genre. Camera:  The video opening focuses on the lead vocalist as seen through a medium shot, which empathizes Goodwin notion of "Star Power" as he is the front man for the band and thus the one that audiences are more likely to recognize. The camera then quickly moves to a range of shots, with many extreme close ups on the lead singers face such as his eyes. It makes the video feel quite intimate to watch, as the singer seems to be vulnerable. Within the shots he looks sad or in pain. Allowing for those watching to feel more connected due to his emotion and vulnerability. The video initially begins in a studio as shown through the canv...
